Today's Wish and Creative Tip

An Experiment I've been asked to write (elsewhere) about THE WRITER EMERGENCY PACK created by John August. So today, (and maybe the next few days) we're going to try something different. The 'pack' is a deck of cards, similar to cards against humanity, it's meant to get your creative juices flowing...

I spent the weekend at the London Screenwriters' Festival. In previous years I've helped run the festival (including being Festival Producer in 2011) but this year my duties were light; just moderatin…

Thank you for posting that,. Some interesting insights there - including the one about “the higher the proportion of creative individuals in a founder’s city, the higher the chance of success for that founder” - that had never actually occurred to me but it definitely makes sense.

This is really, really fascinating. Crazy that 25% of Kickstarter's projects are films. I didn't think it would be that high.

Great article, Darren. Excellent point about how important copious amounts of reading is.. Stephen King says the same thing about writers in his book, "On Writing - A Memoir of the Craft": a good writer has to read, read, read... Thanks for the reference!

I'm glad you all find it inspiring! He really is a filmmaker worth listening to! Let's keep sharing it! :)

Allie, again, this is our first festival. Yes, the film makers will have the option to introduce their films (I believe that is what you are talking about) and yes we have developed a marketing strategy to get the surrounding cities to buy tickets.

Jill C Brooke

I just curated my first small film festival and I am amazed at the local talent! I can extend an invitation to some of our short film submittors and see if they would like to screen with your festival. We had some great films that deserve a wider audience!

Ron Cooper

Jill. That would be awesome. Thank you so much!!

Aitor Uribarri

Hi Ron, if you'd like to consider my film "Horizon" for screening at your festival, please send me a private message and I'll let you have the URL. Thanks!

Anna Sahlstrom

Hi Ron, what is the deadline? I have short called, Pick Me!, and one that will film in July called, Climbing Stairs. Let me know the best way to send either of these to you. Is there a submission fee?
