Stephan Nilson was born and died in Okinawa, Japan in the early 70’s. His attempt at emancipation was thwarted by the skills and competency of the USAF’s nurses and doctors. Since then Stephan Nilson has been capturing the imagination and loyalty of comic book enthusiasts. In 2001 he launched his career by writing and publishing his first independent comic, Government Bodies. In 2005, creating three successful titles: The Iron Ghost, Armor X (Image Comics), and Atomik Mike (Desperado Publishing), he was hired by DC Comics to write stories for Batman and Justice League Unlimited. This break launched a mainstream career that has made Nilson a sought-after creator.
In 2007, Nilson expanded his education in film by completing the Feature Film Program at The Palm Beach Film School. Soon after, he created a web television series; Wreck’d and wrote a pilot, Government Bodies, which was purchased by Nu Image Studios and Millennium films. The hit series Smallville featured his work through animated interstitials in seasons six and seven.
Telling a good story has always been at the core of Nilson’s credo. Shortly after graduation from film school, he began working for the South Florida Water Management District as a videographer and editor. His work with the organization includes filming for National Geographic special on pythons in South Florida and This America for PBS. He also continues to entertain the masses through printed media. An Original Graphic Novel Husk: The Hollow Planet (a collaborative effort with Kids in the Hall star Scott Thompson) and The Pound both were published by IDW in 2010 and 2011. Stephan’s new horror graphic novel Extinction (Across the Pond Studios) hits the shelves in early 2012, and the sequels to Husk and The Pound later in the year. The Pound has already been optioned for feature development. Atomik Mike (2005) has been optioned for animation development as well. Nilson continues to works with DC Comics to this day.
