A colorist and editor friend of mine tells me to switch to the latest FCP X, but lately in different threads here on stage32 I've read that Adobe Premiere is the preferred one (I know AVID is the industry's preferred one), is this true? How did this happen? I used to edit on premiere back in 2000 on a PC and switched to FCP on a Mac because it was supposed to be way better, which I think it is. What do you think?
Rafael - No, Premiere Pro (and Sony Vegas and other NLEs) have had the capacity to handle different file codecs, aspect ratios, SD and HD; on the one timeline (or sequence) for many, many years. No need for transcoding or file rewrapping.
Wow that's excellent
I'm really liking the new Davinci Resolve 12. It has an amazing editing package included for FREE. Give it a try!

I use FCPX all the time. Great software and fast, even on a MacBook PRO with Multi Cam.

Although I'm pretty sure it's impossible now, I think you should change the title. True Blood comes to mind. If you want to be original I would advise distancing yourself as much as possible from the other vampire shows. But I'm sure you weren't involved in that process.

The video was shot with a Canon ELPH Powershot 300HS and it doesn't have a wind screen on it. http://youtu.be/Zkem9RcrsBg
Derrick I plan on making a review on the DR60 Mk2 and on the FeelWorld monitor I'm using.
Great! Looking forward to it.
Derrick here is a short video I made about the DR60 Mk2 http://youtu.be/wXayQo3YlZ8
Looks like a nice efficient set up. Do you shoot with any of the GH-2 hacks? I suggest you get a wind screen for your lavaliere mic. How do you set up your audio configuration for hand held rig/ shoulder shooting?

Expand commentIMHO I think the DR60's are a horrible design. I have one and mount it to the arm of my fluid head so it doesn't have an ill effect on my cinematography. Putting 3.5 to 4 inches of space(whatever it is) between my camera and the pivot-point of the head creates a crazy amount of camera motion if I ever want to tilt the camera. If I were to choose that camera motion it would be one thing, but I don't think it's a very natural look.

There might be a use for my servo controlled Canon B4 lens I have but that is up in the air for now. Feel free to like, share the page with anyone you want. I live near Dallas, Tx and have been involved with filmmaking for a little over a year now. I started out shooting corporate interview things and then it led to more and more creative things. I am trying to work my way into the short film and feature film production side. It is a slow process and takes lots of patience but I keep grinding away. So far besides the interview stuff I have made a few promos, a live concert music event, that was trying, and now I am co-producing my first short film this next month and was asked to help DOP and edit with a feature film at the first of the year. If you guys have any questions at all I would deb happy to answer them or if you just want to chat then shoot me a message. I'm looking for advice on a HD-capable DSLR (or "mirrorless" camera like this Sony: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/891514-REG/Sony_nex6_Alpha_NEX_6_D...) Obviously, if I had $50,000 to spend, I'd just call up RED and say "hey, ship one of those Epics over here." But, er, I don't. I'm looking for something that can do full HD and preferably have: - Interchangeable lenses - Manual focus/exposure/shutter/white balance controls - Zebra for exposure and focus - Audio inputs/outputs Of course, every manufacturer claims their cameras are absolutely the best, so I thought I'd ask some people that had some experience with them - anyone know of an affordable camera like this?
Nikon will likely be releasing the new D7200 this fall. That means the price of the D7100 will drop considerably-- probably around $600 for the body. It's no RED, but it's a solid step up. You could also go with a Black Magic 2.5K for under $2,000 or the 4K for around $3,000.

Color space, exposure latitude and resolution combined create the image qualities we perceive, and the Canon DSLRs do not have it ( but damn they look good on your smartphone. I own and use them constantly as they are popular. A 60D feature I shot, KILL KAPONE, was screened at AMC theaters this week in L.A. people love it and said it looked amazing. OK... :/ Canon DSLRs are not good cameras for video. The BM cameras are ergonmically very strange. AN exiting HD camera that is superb for the price is the Sony FS100... and also, for the money, Canon XF300. They both deliver in very different ways for different uses.

They have focus peaking except for the GH2. They all record 1080p and the GH4 also records 4K and UHD internally. I hope this helps some. Cheers, Paul
I really wanted the GH4 but my budget said "Get the Canon t5i." So I picked that up in a package deal with two lenses and two adapters. Thanks to everyone who gave advice!

That's a great shot! Congratulations. What was the first thing you filmmed with it?
