Recognizing a need for independent African-American films that don’t have exposure through major distribution and an audience seeking those films, James put together the first African-American Film Festival in twenty-two years, in 2011. Through the success of the 2011 and 2012 festivals, he also started the Classic Black Film Festival in 2012 which is held in February during Black History Month
