Roberta Griffin's Lounge Discussions

Roberta Griffin
Hello to everyone

It's been a little while since I've been here. So I thought I'd hang around the Lounge for a little bit. I hope you're all doing great and keeping on with your craft. With each passing day, we all get another step closer to our goals. Have fun and have a great weekend.

Maurice Vaughan

How are you doing, Roberta Griffin? You're right: "With each passing day, we all get another step closer to our goals."

Roberta Griffin
Screenwriter stepping into filmmaking

Hello everyone. Happy Friday. I'm Roberta Griffin and I've been a screenwriter for close to 10 years, give or take a year or two. I've come to the decision to try my hand at filmmaking, starting with a couple of shorts I've written. Any advice for a new, wet behind the ears filmmaker? All is appreciated. I hope everyone here has a great weekend!

Jake Stetler

Roberta, we already have a connection... JF Davis a.k.a. Cordell Pierce. I wrote 'Restitution'. Congratulations on going into production on 'Demons Within'.

Introduce My REJECTION/FAIL

How is everyone doing? I've had many rejections and fails. I haven’t been keeping count, but I’m sure the number is high.

One rejection was when I pitched a feature script. The filmmaker simply wasn’t interested in it.

One fail was when I pitched a feature script that wasn't ready. I read the script...

Yep! Been there and done that. It's so hard to hold back from getting your script out there before it is polished and ready for market. I guess we just have to remember to learn from our mistakes. Best of luck to you and your work!

That sounds like an interesting show, Louris Lee-Sing.

Roberta Griffin, are there times when you wait to pitch a project and realize there's something wrong with it, so you're glad you waited?

Great attitude, Allen R. Nelson! The lesson here is to believe in yourself. Don't look for validation from others.

Wow! That's a lot of rejection emails!

There's a quote I saw online somewhere that read "You're never a loser until you quit trying." Your perseverance is nothing short of inspirational!

Roberta Griffin

Wow! And thank you for sharing your story. Your attitude is refreshing, to say the least. Thank you very much for sharing! :)

A recent fail- I think

So I am currently marketing my latest script and I received a couple of script requests. Ya! Well, one production company went as far as having two meetings with me, connecting me with a producer who read my script and was ready to make the movie. The thing is, the pro-co was only willing to pay 1k...

You may hear no a hundred times before you hear yes; how do you deal with rejection?

If you’re actively seeking to promote your career as a screenwriter, then you’ve probably had your fair share of rejections. As a musician/songwriter, failed novelist and now scriptwriter, I’ve had more than I can count. In fact, I still have many hard copy rejection letters filed away in notebooks....

I use Movie Magic Screenwriter. It's super user friendly. I also have Final Draft but always find myself using MMS :)

Craig D Griffiths

I love Celtx mostly because of the IPad app and how it works with the web. Plus the CARDS app which instantly links to the web as well.

Doug Nelson

I think it really boils down to your comfort level. If all you are doing is writing spec scripts, then any one of the several script writing software programs work just fine but each has its own idiosyncrasies. Final Draft seems to be the most prevalent program used industry wide.

Richard Gustason

I use Adobe Story. Haven't had any problems with it.

Offered a spot as an Extra on upcoming film?

Hey all, just looking for some input. I was contacted about being an extra in a "major scene" for a movie that is filming right now.
