About Joe

Joe Culpepper has been bending and breaking the laws of time, place, and space since the age of fourteen when he began studying magic as a performing art. His writing, acting, directing and performing credits include: “Exits and Entrances” at New Gendai Workstation (Toronto), Show and Tell Alexander Bell (Toronto), “The Sense of Touch” at Dead Herring (New York), “High School Reunions are Weird” at MothUP (Toronto), Gank in Brotherhood of Leet, “The Sage Duban” at the Hallowe’en Vaudevilles (Toronto), “’Spiriti miei infernali, obbedite!’” in ScrABrrRrraaNNG: A Cabaret of Futurist Performance (Toronto), and “A Tribute to Robertson Davies and Val Ross” at Massey College’s annual Feast for the Founding Master (Toronto). As a magic scholar and historian, Joe has published articles in Magicol and Frame, presented his research at 31 Faces North (Toronto), the Magic Collectors’ Association (Chicago), la Universidad de Alicante (Spain), Grand Illusions (Sacramento, California), and once even hoaxed an academic conference at York University. He is currently completing his doctoral dissertation, which is titled Reception and Adaptation: Magic Tricks, Mysteries, Con Games.
