Rewrites

I am having the hardest time rewriting my script. I don't know where to begin or where to end. Any suggestions?

Diane Alpaio

Hi Anthony from time to time Screenwriting U holds a free rewrite teleconference which I've taken and enjoyed. You can check their site at http://www.screenwritingu.com. best, Diane...

Always outline your script before you start. You don't build a house without a blueprint. My best advice would be to read Linda Seger's "Making a Good Script Great" and follow the suggestions.

Kathi Carey

I start macro and then go micro -- meaning start with the overarching stuff like structure, beats, character development, voice, etc. and then go smaller with scene work, dialogue, tightening narrative, stuff like that. When you do it that way it's actually RE-WRITING instead of EDITING.

Jorge J Prieto

You have great advice. Try printing, then checking line by line (which I hate bth) and if you have someone you trust hopefully another writer, have them read it for clarity/feedback. Erik's advice to get Dr. Seger's book is a great idea, the woman is a pro. Good luck.

Do I have to put tech stuff into a script ...I know you have to put action .....but lighting uh oh me no understand ....

What's next? After finishing a feature??

So! What's your protocol after you finished writing your script? Send it to a handful of people to read and give you notes? Then what? I've gotten about 5 industry friends to read it, and I've edited and re-written a couple of times..still looking for more input...do I submit to contests? Which ones would you all recommend? Thanks for any input!!

Jorge J Prieto

The Page, they also have feedback and as my amigo Pierre says, "start your next" asap.

David Taylor

As you finish the next ones, you learn more about the previous ones.

THANKS ALL

William Martell

I write another script, then go. back and rewrite the first - and going until I have nothing left to rewrite... THEN I swap scripts with other people. I don't want to waste a read on problems that I can see. I want to use the read for my blind spot.

Mista Martel

After getting constructive criticisms on potential blind spots I work on rewriting it and after that I start submitting to some festivals. Usually, I have started working on another script.

Australian Netflix documentary maker saying hi

Hey all. Just trying to work this platform out. I am host and producer of a fairly wild but damn thoughtful Australian documentary series about US Subcultures... 2 seasons are up on Netflix and one more is coming soon! Looking to expand my network overseas and meet other people in the field. Cheers!

Awesome. I am often up late watching documentaries on Netflix. I haven't' been on for a while as I am very busy myself in film. But will watch for it!
