I'm intensely focused on my acting career right now. But I've made a living as a freelance writer (mostly copy, videos, etc.) my entire life. And here's what I've learned: If you promote and make yourself known, you get work. If you're not getting work, you have to promote more. I know that seems almost insultingly simple, and we all have a tendency to look for "other reasons" or someone/something to blame. But I have decades of experience to back it up. :-) That's why really relevant social media -- like Stage 32 -- is so effective. Just read Charles Masi's post below, for an example. Now, two sub-points to go with the basic concept: 1) Recognize that you won't necessarily get a reach from those you specifically promoted to. It's more the fact that you push enough stuff out, and stuff will come back. So don't think that the reach from Person X, to whom you didn't promote, isn't a result of you're having promoted to Person A, who didn't respond. 2) (And this is gonna sound crazy, I know.) Clean the house...or the office...or the car... or whatever. Just make things orderly, where you can, because mess clogs things up and, figuratively, leaves no room for things to come to you. I say this, because I'm the kind of person who blitzes through projects, round the clock, until they're done. And everything else, pretty much, goes to hell.:-) And I've found that if I leave the mess when I'm done, it's like pulling teeth to get the next project. But if I make things orderly, all of a sudden there's work. It's truly magical.:-) So... those are my tips, and I hope you find them useful.
