For anyone who has read my profile, you will know that I have been a writer for 14 years and despite all that time, I am not much closer to finishing a novel then I was five years ago. For several years I have had an interest in establishing myself here within the film industry but with no clear idea as to how. So, now that I am here among people who are either already in the industry and maybe already established, what can I do to work my way in?
Aside from transitioning to scriptwriter, what other opportunities can I look for as an author to build my name in the industry and how might you recommend I go about it? If it makes a difference, I am most comfortable writing within the Fantasy genre.

I'm the author of several books, fiction and nonfiction. I have also done quite a bit of background acting. While in TX, I was contacted to do a principle role by an nbc casting agent for an Investigative Discovery episode as a detective. But had to turn it down. It being back in NY, and my work schedule. Now, I'm back in NY, and started doing background roles again. Seeking to land some features, and speakings roles.
Well, if you're a casting agent, director in NY, etc and are looking for an African American actor. I'm open for work.
Good to see you, Therone!
Thanks

If you're contemplating writing a book, then you should read the article. I'm the author of several books. You can review and even purchase all my titles at Amazon, Google Play Books, etc.
Great tips Therone! Thank you! www.pamelahill.net
Thanks for sharing! I agree with it mostly, especially with the advice on writing a long-form synopsis. Except most of mine aren't one page and I don't break them into acts in the summary. So far the longest summary I've written is 26 pages long, 12 pt. font, single-spaced (they're very detailed).
Great piece Therone! As a filmmaker who has published eight bestselling books, I know the devotion it takes to get that first book published. I'd also like to add for new authors, there isn't that ONE best way of going about the writing process. You simply need to find what works best for YOU!

I could never write every day. I write when the inspiration comes to me and usually it's while sitting on the beach when I get the massive downloads. You can certainly try to write every day if you wish, just don't force it if it doesn't come. I now coach writers through the entire book publishing process and love watching them blossom into bestselling authors. www.CaliGilbert.com
Thank you for a great blog Therone, You've given me some pointers I can put to my clients :)
Thanks, Therone for sharing your journey. Great tips. I have 15 chapters of a book I started at least 2 years ago and then got distracted with screenplays I've written. I think I'll pick it up again. You've inspired me. IPs are important to have.
Thanks Toni. I'll keep you in mind. Apologies for this tardy reply. It's been a crazy year.
Great blog, and great game plan, Therone, enjoyed! I also find making 'character assessments' very useful, even if nobody sees them, at least they make it clear for you as you write the actual novel.
Great post! Thanks!

I was fortunate enough to come across that book written by Therone Shellman. It is very inspirational. It is a fact that we create our destiny by changing our consciousness. There is hope and an inward spiritual realization in everyone of us,something that is beyond all doubt, fear and uncertainty.I learn that there is much in each of us that must be loosed:the rope of fear that bind us,the winding of doubt and uncertainty, the darkness and gloom of your self imposed prison, and the stone that must be rolled away. And i also learn that there is one side of us that has never entered the shadow of doubt This is what we must develop if we are to prove that one person with God can be supreme in whatever is right, just or true.Just one person with God.I Am loving this book...Anyone who's looking for change, this book truly can help you.

5.0 out of 5 starsA good account of spiritual awakening
January 3, 2013
Format: Kindle Edition
In this book, the author conveys his spiritual journey from the life of crime to achieving inner peace by recognizing God within. Mind you, the author does not believe in organized religion. His line of thinking can apply to everybody regardless of their beliefs or religion. His self discovery leads him to come to the conclusion that he does not have to look elsewhere to achieve love, peace, happiness or success, because all this is within him. This may not sound new to most of us but we did not have the same experiences that he hid when he was young. He also goes through the different levels of self discovery which helped him to get to the highest level of inner peace. I assume it takes a lot of discipline and practice to get to the that level. Some of it seems too much to live up to, but there is truth in what he writes. This is a personal account and may not be for everyone but I upload any methodology that helps people elevate themselves to be better. If you are conflicted in life and don't know what to do, this may be a great reference for you.

I wrote my first two novels, Love Don't Live Here, and No Love Lost before attending Gothams Writers Workshop in NYC for screenplaywriting. It was in this class where I learned, writing a synopsis provides a writer with a guideline as to how they would like their project to begin and end. For my nonfiction books I write outlines, which have chapters, and subchapters. All of this makes it easy to write the project in sections, and piece it together.

Then I add sluglines.
At that point the script almost writes itself.
BUT... I usually find by the "page 80 crash" my ending sucks... So by page 90 I end up on my own.
I'm considering (no kidding) trying to write my outlines BACKWARDS (sort of like what J Walsh) is saying, but IDK.
