I worked in commercial theater production for many years and learned a lot about script development. I love producing and had a few great mentors, and the most committed to my interest in story was David Brown. David was a long-established, mid-20th Century story expert from 20th Century Fox who also dabbled in theater. We co-produced for a few years (capital and sweat equity) before he offered to mentor an original script of my choice. His style was to remain patient, hopeful, and to only prod in a Socratic manner. I still apply his bedrock principles to any story I'm working up - still apply the patience and hope - all more useful to me than perhaps any writing course. I took some years off to be active in family life. Today I’m reinventing myself, and my focus is on medium, and where my skills fit in this demanding new Century.
