I've always wondered, with screenwriting, what is the first thing to pique peoples interest and stop them from setting down what their reading? The subject matter, the charecters, hooking the reader from the first page or is it all in the TITLE. There have potentially been Acadamy Award worthy scripts that have gone nowhere due to an uninteresting title which doesn't garner attention like the titles of previously produced movies such as "Pulp Fiction" or "Boogie Nights". So my question to all of you is what makes you pick up one script and not another and what makes you keep on reading until the end?

It's one of those thoughts on another sleepless night, how does one recapture a dream I got to live in my youth? Acting for me was living a dream, it was something that I knew at 10, I wanted to do for the rest of my life. But like all great dreams it ended. I want to live my dream again, it was the one thing that let me step out side of my world and enter a world that I felt more comfortable in. It's a hard dream to achieve. My last taste was an acting class run by one of the biggest casting agencies in LA. I was in the class to meet with the person running the class, I was there not to act but to meet and do business. So I sat back and watched these kids who's dreams were to act, and they were there to learn about casting calls and take turns doing cold reads. For some strange reason I was called to the front of the class to show the students how to do a cold read. The casting agent who I was there to meet knew I had been in the business and knew the ropes . Reluctantly I did the cold read, a CSI episode part. Now the first go I put no acting effort in what so ever, held the 3 page script in my hand and read right from the script. After it was done, I was asked if I could do it again, this time taking it serious. And out of no where it clicked, I set the script down and said okay lets do this. When asked if I needed the script I said no, I read it once I got it, the casting agent took it as a challenge. So we did the scene again, not missing a line. Then I was asked if we could do it again, but this time as a redneck character, which I did. The class started to call out characters for me to do the read as, so i did them. Over 45 mins later and after doing this scene over and over each time as a different character, the class came to an end. The casting agent came up to me and told me that she had never expected me to be able to do what I had just done on the spot and that if it was a real casting call I would have been hired right then and there. I told her acting was not my thing at that time as I was trying there to try to lock down a casting agent for the film I had co-written, which after that class I did. I had hooked one of the best casting agency in LA to cast our film. sure everything fell apart with our film being stolen. But still as ii sit here and look back at that moment, I think shit I have it. I can do it. I want it. Now how do I get back into it? Sure I wanna write and direct films, I love every part of film making. But damn I really miss acting.
