Matt Benincasa: Actor in New York City, New York.

Have you looked at your agent's profile?

All actors should check out agencies websites and see the stuff actors promote themselves with, and then make better choices. You don’t need to hire an expensive to do this, especially when you're new. People make the silliest choices and give themselves away in their photos. And we all become mind...

How to know if you're good enough?

Hi everyone! I've always wanted to get into acting, and as a young kid I really enjoyed being cast as main characters in Xmas plays and stuff, but then I moved school and ended up losing all my confidence. I still struggle a lot with my confidence, so my question is ... How do I know if I'm good eno...

Ditto Victor's advice. I'd add that if it's, as you put it, 'a lifelong goal', then you must simply start and put up with (probably) being 'bad' for a while and being rejected. Acting is competitive,...

Be very willing to fail and do some bad acting. Ultimately, it is impossible for you not to be you. Accept yourself entirely. Don't look for validation "out there."

Benjamin Leggatt

Thanks everyone! Its all really helpful advice! I really appreciate it :)

Looking for connections

Tired of struggling to find acting work in Suffolk County. Anyone else?

Matt Benincasa

Why are you limiting yourself to Suffolk county? You don't have to struggle so much to deserve real success.

New to this and interested in a agent.

Hi guys I'm Callum, I've been acting from a young age and I've been asked to do star shows like Jesus Christ superstar and I did infact play Jesus so if anyone has any advice it would be great !? :D

Callum Byrne

That's a real shame it would of been great meeting you :D!?

Al Hibbert

To sing the Jesus part you got to have a good voice.

Matt Benincasa

Build a body of work and let the agent be interested in you. It's a two way street.

What attracts actors to certain Roles?

So, there's my question. As a screenwriter, what is it about a screenplay that gets your attention? I write some horror genre but my main passion is sci-fi. I've entered competitions and did fairly well but nothing beyond a good job and congrats. It does help pad my resume a bit so that's good to have.

Thomas J. Herring

Do you look at the dialog and wonder if it makes sense? I've been told that my characters have to have their own voice. I drive a school bus so I hear a lot of different voices.

Matt Benincasa

Thomas -- without reading your comment my first instinct was that I like to hear the character's voice. Not necessarily in the literal sense as if they're "speaking", although that might be true, but more in the sense that I understand the character's POV about the circumstances.

Thomas J. Herring

I understand. Sometimes it's not was is said but what remains hidden in their voice or action. At least I think that's the point.

What is the right environment for an actor?

I am not sure if this topic has been discussed, but I do not have the patience to go searching throughout the forum. I would like to know from actors only: What type of environment/city/location is good for an actor? I have been dividing my time from Berlin, Germany to Warsaw, Poland; and from my ex...

We actors torture ourselves thinking success exists somewhere "out there." So I try to redefine what success means. And it's not so much where you are but the story you are telling yourself when you a...
