Rather than waiting for opportunities to be cast in or write for, create your own opportunities to tell stories. This was the main reason for starting Where Monkeys Play, which is a production and management company. One of the current projects is an adaptation of the book "Timothy and the Dragon's Gate" by Adrienne Kress, published by Weinstein Books (of which I own full rights) for possible series. Among the several other projects we're working on are a documentary, a short, an animated short, and a graphic novel series. We always have several scripts at varying stages. Along with own projects, I seek out talented, passionate souls that just need a chance to be heard and seen. There are too many obstacles (self-made or industry made) that make people give up in this industry. If you know this is what you are meant to do, in your soul, you cannot rest in finding a way forward. Storytelling is what connects all of us, especially humor...everything in life is based on humor...the dark and the light. Take any one of your favorite shows, films, books....there is that underlying thread of humor running throughout. So, follow your passion, continue to push forward, and never let the obstacle of failing to reach out because you don't want to hear a "pass" or "no thanks"....those are just helping guide you where you are meant to land.
