Djaka Souaré is a Guinean & French actress & writer-director based in NYC. Her first short film, "Jazz in Wakanda", which she wrote, directed, produced & in which she starred, was an Official selection at Urban World, Nitehawk Shorts, NY African FF, etc, and sold to COMCAST as part of "Black Power Series". Her pilot script "Ainoah", dystopian tale of a secret society of multicultural women, made it to Top 20 of Hillman Grad/UNSEEN program in 2021. IN 2023, she was selected for the CANEX/AFRIFF program "Script to Screen" to develop her first feature, and was one of the 25 screenwriters to win the pitching competition.
Djaka currently stars in the festival darling horror/comedy "Cut Me If You Can" directed by Nicolas Polixene & Sylvain Loubet (Clermont-Ferrand FF, SCAD, Moscow FF,) She acts in and produced Zainab Jah & Timothy Naylor's "Reunion", short that qualified for Oscar contention in 2025. Other credits include the HULU special "Black Stories Present: Your Attention Please", directed by TriBeCa 2019 award-winner Phillip Youmans.
Djaka worked at Goldcrest & Saboteur Production, overseeing projects from financing to casting, working across both documentary and narrative films. She was a producer on Sebastian Junger & Nick Quested National Geographic "Hell On Earth: the fall of Syria and the rise of Isis" that premiered at TriBeCa FF in 2017 and for which she won a duPont Award and a co-producer on the documentary "I Want my MTV" that opened at TriBeCa FF in 2019. Face of head of rebellion soldier Halima in the video game "Call of Duty", Djaka is part of WIF, NYWIFT & Free The Work. She speaks English, French & Spanish fluently.
