  • Man of the People: Dr. Hector P. Garcia

Man of the People: Dr. Hector P. Garcia (2011)
Film (short) by Armando Ibanez (Documentary, Biography, History and News) Director, Producer, Editor, Cinematographer This short is about Dr. Hector P. Garcia, a physician who played a pivotal role in establishing the foundation for civil and human rights in the United States. Dr Garcia preceded Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and Cesar Chavez. Political powerhouses, including Presidents Lyndon B. Johnson, John F. Kennedy, and Ronald Reagan, who awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom, knew and worked with Dr. Garcia. Yet, the public knows little about a man who sacrificed so much for his country and dedicated his life to civil and human rights, as well as assisting veterans and helping the poor. Dr. Hector worked tirelessly--some say obsessively--to secure and defend the civil rights of Mexican-Americans, most of whom faced rampant discrimination and were poverty-stricken.
