About James

Fascinated with the illusion of life in movies, Hurley began making stop-motion films by building latex-armature creatures at age twelve, in which, won top awards around California. At seventeen, he was first to win two California Arts Scholarships and studied with the renowned author of Cinematography, Kris Malkiewicz at CalArts.

Hurley earned Bachelor Of Arts Degree in Cinema and a Master Of Arts in Writing and Directing for Film and Television Degree from San Francisco State University, where his interest transitioned from character animation to directing live-action cinema. There, he taught the Directing course with founder Jameson Goldner.

As cinematographer, his films continue to win top awards in film festivals. Hurley’s clients include, Google, Inc., The History Channel, and The Travel Channel. He lives in California.
