Nicky Brockwell

Hi, I'm Nicky, so here is where I start, I am just the average woman, nothing perfect- just creative and loves creating something even if it is a handmade gift. I began to study for a degree in Journalism and Digital media, and in 2013- I received a BA Hons- however, in the last final year of the degree my pc crashed twice and I lost a lot of work, and my father passed away, my mother had dementia and had to go into a care home. However, I managed to get the degree whilst also caring for my son who has autism. It certainly was a struggle- but I managed to get the degree- not the 2.1 that I wanted, but happy that I passed.

whilst on the course, I did a documentary on Homelessness in 2014, Hull (where I'm from) is a small town, not like a known city but a creative town in its own right. (refused the kings three times.) It's a poorish town since ww2 it was heavily bombed, although it's been used in films such as The Girl's Night out. and has many unsung talents. Lewis Carroll the author of Alice in Wonderland, his mother was born in Hull, and the richest man called Sir Ellerman gained his richest empire with the money from Hull, (just giving you a little background to the town.) I saw how the homelessness began to grow and another student and I made the documentary to raise awareness in the community, we received two awards, one from Royal Television Awards and another from The Rank Organisation.


I came to this site, because my interest is in film, and I would one day love to be a film editor- I have a blog at the moment which is called HullEcho, its a blog with arts and entertainment in the Hull area. so I generally do a lot of promoting for bands and their agents. I also do book reviews and promote the books. So I'm looking to start here, to network with creatives across the globe, to learn and pick up tips, and most of all to create good relationships with the people I network with.
