About Dan

For the last 6+ years Dan Exter has been able to develop a unique skill-set that has given him the ability of creating content from concept to completion. As a videographer Dan has experience using camera’s ranging from “prosumer” style models such as the Sony Vixea, and DSLR Canon Rebel T5i to professional models like the Sony XD-EX and Sony HDV-HD camera. As a non-linear editor, Dan has 6 years of experience using Final Cut Pro and over the last 3 years has transitioned to Adobe Premiere Pro. Dan also has experience in text and graphic programs such as Photoshop and After Effects. He has also taken courses in Avid Media Composer and Front-End Web Development to continue his education and expand his skill-set

Over the last two years Dan was promoted as lead video editor for his network’s core studio programming. As lead editor he writes and edits scripts and shot sheets for the network’s on-air talent using Microsoft Word and Excel, works hand-in-hand with the shows producer to organize, edit and collaborate in the creation of all video assets used throughout each show.

Dan is also the go-to when it comes to content sharing and distribution. Working with networks such as CBS Sports, NFL Network and News 12 he collaborates and organizes a content sharing relationship, using file transfer programs (FTP) like FileZilla, DropBox & Fetch. He also trains and works with freelancers and interns in creating their coverage schedule & instructs them on the network’s production standards.

Outside of MSG Varsity, Dan founded Layups 4 Life, a 3-on-3 basketball tournament and fundraiser benefitting Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. To date, Layups 4 Life has raised over $13,000 and has received sponsorships from national brands such as Xerox, MedExpress, Retro Fitness, ShopRite, Steiner Sports and BJs Wholesale. Professional sport franchises such as the Yankees, NY Giants, NY Rangers, NJ Devils and Brooklyn Nets have all donated memorabilia as well.
