Hi all, hope you're well. I have an idea for an educational children's TV show (think Sesame Street/Teletubbies). Do Execs require just a treatment, pilot, or each episode of the entire series scripted before the querying process begins? I'm a feature writer and thus this side of the business is new to me. Many thanks.

If you're able, try to attend Kidscreen in Florida. I only know a few kids' TV writers (they aren't in educational TV, so I can't ask them this question for you), and I know they consider it a totally legit networking conference. And in the meantime, try to network with some educational TV producers and senior writers.
Hello Regina, thank you very much for your time out to respond to me. Unfortunately I'm in England so will not be able to attend the Kidscreen. I'll try to hunt down educational TV producers and the like. Many thanks.

Obviously as long as there is an educational element or an overlooked audience, producers will want to take a closer look. If you can get a pilot together or a segment to show them, you might be able to gain some interest.

I'll get a pilot up together right away. How long is a children's episode? Sorry, I don't have children haha. I have a few episode ideas so I'll write treatments for those, too. Are there any competitions etc. I could submit my idea too to gain exposure or is it a case of querying children's production companies who accept unsolicited material? I might even do a concept of the first episode using Flash animation to portray my idea visually. Thank you once again.

Get a good segment together and submit it to as many film festivals you can afford. Look into film freeway.com. Enter a few competitions, win a few and build from there. Good luck.
