This is a trailer for my book, The Gulls Are Always Laughing. The book is both prose and poetry and chronicles much of my life, from my journey as a gay teen in rural Arkansas attending an authoritarian church in the 1960s, facing abuse and bullying, to learning how to release the pain, know my worth, and love myself.
In 1967, a promiscuous and rebellious girl runs away with a hippie to the Summer of Love in San Francisco, becomes pregnant with a biracial child, and has to face her racism and that of her family during the Civil Rights Movement.
A transwoman finds love but struggles with memories of abuse and her mother's murder. She is torn between love and her pledge to kill the man who brutalized her as a child. (Note) This novel has now been adapted into a feature-length screenplay.
