About David

David Michán studied at the Technologic Institute and College of Monterrey (ITEMS - Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey) graduating with a degree in Communication Sciences.
After graduation, he lived for five years in Los Angeles California, working as a production assistant and as a director’s first assistant in feature films, video clips, television series, and commercials. During that time he got the opportunity to work with such distinguished directors as: Antoine Fuqua, Marcos Siega, Oliver Stone, Tony Kaye, Joe Pytka, Isabel Coixet, among others.
During his stay in Los Angeles, California, he also took a course in film photography at Ucla Extension.
After that, he returned to Mexico City to study Filmmaking at the Filmmaking Training Center (CCC – Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica). David has written, produced, and directed a number of short films, documentaries, and music videos.
His short film, MEXICAN DREAM, was the jury winner for best short fiction film in Brussels, Germany, and Austin, Texas, as well as having been the official selection in more than 25 festivals around the world.
His thesis “ADVERSE EFFECTS”, a 74 minute feature film, was an official selection in the 26th edition of the International Film Festival in Guadalajara (FICG26)
as well as official selection in more than 35 International Film Festivals among them: the International Film Festival in Edmonton, Canada, the Fresh Film Festival in the Czech Republic, the International Film Festival in Transylvania, I’ve Seen Films in Milan, Italy, and the Latino Film Festival in San Francisco, California.
In addition, special mentions were made by the jury for Best OPERA PRIMA in the Binational Independent Film Festival in El Paso, Texas and The International Film Festival in Toluca.
ADVERSE EFFECTS won Best Movie and Best Actor at the 3rd Macabre Faire Film Festival in Long Island N.Y. Best Editing and Special Mention for Best Director at the 1st Festival Brasil de Cinema Internacional in São Paulo, Brasil 2013. Gen-Next Award for Best Feature Film at KahBang Film Festival, Maine, USA 2013. Jury Award for Best Actor and Best New Director at the World Music and Independent Film Festival, Washington, DC, USA, 2013.
