Very insightful, thank you. I will examine all my writing with your approach in mind.
Hey everyone! My name's Jess. I'm a Canadian screenwriter, actress, and filmmaker. So great to meet you all and I can't wait to connect with all of you!
hi guys
Welcome!
Canadian here as well!
Thanks for sharing! As a voice over artist myself who uses Voices.com as well, I found this article very interesting.

Expand postThis is so helpful. My first post on Stage 32 was about a project idea that came to me when re-watching Saturday Night Fever. I didn't expect the idea to generate controversy, but it did. It felt personal, so I had to look at what happened in myself to echo the upset I felt. I think film can be a media that provides healing, and I truly believe that a third sequel to Saturday Night Fever would do that. The idea was about a Me Too issue arising around Tony, either accurate, partially accurate or not at all, but to use that to trigger a confrontation or conversation between Tony and Annette. I see Annette as being successful in a career where she has found her voice. In this way the rape scene from the first movie, that was truly a injury to so many women, would be addressed and healed. But some comments in that thread were completely victim blaming and pretty unconscious and hurtful. But in other comments, I saw that I was not the only woman who was appalled at the way that rape scene happened and then was basically dismissed as nothing in the face of Bobby's accidental (?) death. I thought it wouldn't be too far-fetched to actually tie that death to the rape he had just witnessed and done nothing to stop as well. I still believe it's a great idea. I may not have the experience to write it effectively at this point being a newbee, but would love to see it happen for the sake of all women who suffered watching that scene. Plus I think John Travolta and Donna Pescow could win Oscars in the best possible outcome of this sequel. I know it would generate controversy, so that's always great buildup for a movie. As a writing exercise, I did work on writing that scene between them, but it needs more work, it was a bit skeletal.
Hey Jean,
I also believe film can be a media that provides healing. I'm sorry about any hateful comments you had to endure. I've been there, but keep coming up with great ideas and powering through!
Some of the push-back on that idea was it would taint the hero image of Tony, so lately toyed with the idea that instead Tony's wife has a Me, Too issue with a director and helps hold him responsible...
Expand commentSome of the push-back on that idea was it would taint the hero image of Tony, so lately toyed with the idea that instead Tony's wife has a Me, Too issue with a director and helps hold him responsible for what he did and he ends up in jail. But from seeing what it put her through, he flashes on what happened with Annette and decides to try to make things right. She could still be the strong character I envisioned, just maybe she buried it and Tony ends up helping her heal. But it's not my property to actually work with but for some reason the idea came to me, and I'd love to see this happen.
Great videos. Especially loved the round table.
Glad you enjoyed, Jess, and I appreciate you commenting! Please do pay it forward and share with others who might benefit from the content (and the coffee).
Great article! Thanks for sharing.

Expand postThanks for this article, Jess, and its attention toward the elephant that Never Leaves the room, right? I would think that if more individuals attended to their Own mental health, there may be fewer minefields in navigating our daily "state"...then again, if our own mental state is stronger and more steady through the practices you suggest, we may not find our ourselves traipsing through these minefields in the first place. Dang -- it all comes right back to me like a boomerang. I hate it when that happens! Hahaa, thanks again!
As a mental health advocate, this article is so important. Our #1 priority is our health. Last summer, I was often so overwhelmed/loaded with projects that I was getting burnt out/etc. Self-care at all times!
Absolutely! Thank so much for reading and spreading the message to take care of our mental health!
You're welcome!
I became a group facilitator for NAMI (National Alliance for Mental Illness) this past weekend. There is a national
hotline number for people suffering from depression, suicidal thoughts, addiction, and other illnesses. This is a tough business, but there is always help. The number is 1-800-950-NAMI (6464) or info@nami.org..

Hi Edward, that's the spirit, keep thinking positive. I keep looking and see if there are any American funding organizations who could help you with funding and financing your film. :-)

I've been diagnosed with a mental illness, like schiznophrenia, and I know what it's like to be diagnosed with something like that. On this website, I've been focusing on one goal, and that is finding a Chicago publicist who can interview me about my three topics that are based on soap operas and music. BTW, have YOU ever visited Chicago? And, if so, what was it like? Thank you for posting something that is relateable to me.
Hey Cassie,
Thanks so much for reading! It's great to meet people who relate to what you're talking about. I have not been to Chicago but I love travel and will definitely make my way down there someday!
Awesome. :D

That's for the uplifting note- yes- you go tit right- I just went through that For I'm doing the role of Rubin "Hurricane" Carter and got some bad vibes from facebook, I'm playing the role of "Hurricane" because his life is moving and how "Hurricane" changed people from all walks of life. I had to adapt the script- for myself will be Rubin "Hurricane" Carter and a nice lady who did Netflix in Pittsburgh will play Lisa. Interesting twist for a wrote a new story for this and the young lady and I will have a talk back after our performance. Thanks for the encouragement. Peace- Ed Skirtich
