Creating Intellectual content and copywriting is just rule of thumb. There will always be someone who wants to COPY (whether copyright or not) but they have to be in same mind as creator, and inevitably cannot carry original idea through.

I have had all my names stripped from groups I created and choreographed and erased from by this I need this advice i have over ------ dollars worth of videos I created on stage and traveling in movies hard part is half my crew are deceased or lost thier minds or dont know

I never outgrew blogging. However, because my main interest in screenwriting was conflicting the development process of building readership on the blog, I thought to merge them. My tech savvy, or lack thereof, using code to format the tab indentions for a movie script to display properly on a blog motivated me to fallback on a manual typewriter which I could scan hard copies of and upload. The brainchild for developing a blog where members could share scenes and sequences for feedback started when the “meetup” writing groups I participated in couldn’t quite perfect the sharing process writers inherently were expected to meet in distributing their rough draft MS to other group members. one day I heard s.b. comment about plagiarism and his view was simple: if I ever see a scene I wrote in a movie clip, then at least I’ll know I’m on the right track. Keeping this in mind helped enforce the idea of a blog site for screenwriters because it could time stamp intellectual property AND furnish witness account of when something was written (and uploaded). I still blog my screenplay ideas and welcome writers to contribute to the project. My Lj blog is www.blanketsin.com

I think you guys are all right. Ideas can truly be stolen but the harder part is putting it down as you rightly said Kay. There, the scripts will be different though emanating from the same idea. If yours is the same with the person who stole your idea, wont this spoil your chances of having your script bought? Though, I didn't agree with you Owen about ideas being unable to be stolen, but I agree that you should be careful about showing your work to fellow writers. True! Someone needs to know who he or she is about showing his or her work to, because he or she may not only steal your idea but your idea together with your script. What about that?

You are very right Jeff. But, do you know that it can also happen between two writers seeking advice from one another on their scripts. That is the basis of our discussion. What do yo think?

Hello Steel! How are you doing? I want to believe good. I do have a play which is based on relationships (both sexual and societal) and it is a play that's sieved of all irrelevant, but just hammered on the crucial lesson embedded in it. I believe you will want to check it out. But, I must include this, due to it being robbed off of all the non essentials it ended up being a play of few pages( about 15 to 20 pages of the computer). So, are you interested or not?

Don't know if play would work. I think a film would be better. Seems like that story would not cost a lot so maybe!!!!

If the profanity in the title seems appropriate to the tone of the overall screenplay, or otherwise legitimately justified, then I wouldn't necessarily object to it. However, it is probably advisable to imply the profanity, rather than spelling it out expressly. For instance, substitute a blank (_____) for the profane word or an asterisk (*) or other punctuation or symbol for some of the letters in the profane words. Or maybe use a more refined phrase or term that essentially shares the same meaning with the phrase that is considered profane.

If possible, it may be more palatable to everyone if you misspell the profanity word, or spell phonetically. Inglorious Basterds comes to mind.

If you're a screenwriter and tell someone that you are in a bar, inevitably you will hear, "Oh, my life would make a good story for a movie." This is what this thread was about. Genius or schmoe. The interesting thing about those people's interesting stories in bars is that they're a lot more willing to tell it than to take the time, learn the craft, and write it themselves... the way they really want it. Once it becomes work, they flake... usually.

I think it's more a case of the 1% inspiration, 99% perspiration. I think everyone can have a genius idea every now and then, but its the 99% sweat, blood and tears which make that great idea into a reality. Along the way you learn how not to have a big head and be a "schmoe" as you call it, and realise that constructive feedback is actually your friend!!!

@David Gates... those distinctions were true before the advent of self-publishing. Now everyone thinks they can write so I make a distinction -- at least for myself and my students. I've gone so far as to ask people to leave my class if they refuse to put in the effort needed to "create" a credible narrative. Authors are writers who strive for perfection in every format. A writer these days is anyone who can figure out how to use createspace. There was a time when claiming oneself to be an author sounded pompous. Now, I'm willing to sound a little full of myself because I know how much effort is needed to take a project from conception to completion... and do it well.
