Who are you writing for? Who is your audience?

Are you spending too much time writing and too little time trying to sell a screenplay or get a writing job? One of my pals in LA just told me I need to spend more time selling.

How are you branding yourself? Not with a hot iron I hope. What say you? Who are you writing for?

Craig D Griffiths

And if we go back to Phil's original question " how are you branding yourself?". Well brand is definitely different to selling. Brand is what people think when they hear your name. Great horror writer...

I eschew online branding of human beings as commodifying life. Also, I write sit-com and am available for staffing! ;)

No tattoos for me either. But if I get, I think it'll say writer for hire. Or I consider a picture of William Goldman, but I don't think anybody would recognize it.

Two pronged question.

1) What your favourite genre and why? 2) what do you think will be the next big thing?

Jorge J Prieto

Favorite genre, drama, stories about real human beings in real life situations/conflict/struggles. The next big thing? Same old, Marvel, Dc Comic, now there bringing back (Universal Studios) remakes o...

Jorge hopefully awards start to translate to dollars and we get those stories as well. I am a sucker for a hero pick ( I am writing this waiting for Logan to start ).

Sumit Sengupta

I absolutely love writing Sci-Fi and fantasy adventures and I think they will dominate the scene because of their wider reach. Horror will always be there but I am not good at all when it comes to scaring people.

How long do you work on a screenplay?

Hey friends!

I just wanted to know for how long do you work on a screenplay before sending it out. I've heard - 'as long as it takes to get it ready' - but it is confusing. I never feel 100% satisfied with my work but surely I can't keep working on one screenplay forever. Any advise? Thanks :)

Pidge Jobst

Since the mind tends to employ "closure", we can often re-read a screenplay and browse right over undetectable mistakes or items that need attention. A fresh set of eyes like Chad S. suggests from som...

Good points about first impressions and script consultants, Pidge. I also know people in the industry who go to certain pages, and know other people who pretty much want to hear only beats and reversa...

Some very important and interesting points there. Wasn't aware about people going to certain pages to check the structure. Thanks a lot :)

When you first started screenwriting... what genre did you start with?

Scripts or years later, what genre did you fall in love with?

Jody Ellis

first script was a drama. Still mainly stick to drama and dramedy. I do have one straight comedy and a couple thrillers. Most are female centric, my expertise is in writing strong women.

David Downes

Sci-Fi/Horror

Raymond J. Negron

I love comedy, dark comedy, and animation. If it's done right, it's amazing. We don't laugh enough as human beings and most people are lost in the bad news world. Stop readin the paper, the new, and s...
