Fleeing domestic abuse Sheila steals Xavier’s kayak stranding him on the river
where he’s volunteering to collect watershed samples. They connect at an AA
meeting & form a friendship strongly rooted in their shared view that the world
doesn’t care about young people stuck in the system. Hearing of a commune
purporting to solve this, they set off on a cross-country trip hopping trains to find
what they hope will be their solution.
