Stephen Hoover Biography

Stephen is a licensed attorney in private practice for twenty-five years, handling civil and criminal trial work. J.D. from Louisiana State and M.F.A. from the University of Georgia (Grady college).

He is co-writer on the feature film TINKER (premiered on Netflix in 2018 and on Amazon in 2019).

He is the writer of twenty non-fiction books. Most are on film-related topics (available on Amazon). Last year marked the publication of his first novel, THE HUNTED, a future-noir dystopian thriller.

Stephen has optioned two other screenplays, which are in development:

HORROR COMIC (thriller set in the 1950s comic book world) won Gold Prize, Page International (top of over 3,000 entries). The script also earned him one of six workshop winners at the Atlanta Film Festival where he developed the script further with writer Rob Long. The script also won Top Genre Prize (Thriller) at Creative Screenwriting Expo and Big Apple.

PLAY THAT FUNKY MUSIC (a comedy about a hard rocker who finds his soul and love when he joins a funk band) has been optioned by Mark Miller, producer, and has several iconic funk music performers attached (George Clinton, Flea).

Mentorships through Gary Goldstein’s course; Chris Soth’s program; attended McKee’s Story and genre workshops, Gordy Hoffman’s workshop, and Dave Trottier’s Sundance Retreat. Other courses through Gotham Writers’ Workshop and UCLA Extension program online. Ongoing feedback from Erik Bork (BAND OF BROTHERS) and Michele Wallerstein (former agent).

Stephen has taught both screenwriting and comedy writing at the L.S.U. Extension program.

Personal: Married for ten years to the lovely Tatiana Hoover. Stephen and Tatiana are proud parents of Eva (age 11) and Matthew (age 4).
