As a working mother, Kathryn Machi won Women’s and Native American scholarships at San Francisco State University, where she completed her BA in English/Journalism and earned an MFA in Fiction and Screenwriting. Focused on feminist, historical, family, and arts stories for international audiences ages 10 to 110, Kathryn’s screenplays are featured on the Indigenous List (2021 and 2021) and have been recognized by IllumiNative, the Black List, Sundance, the Cherokee Nation Film Office, Native American Media Alliance, Final Draft Big Break, and the Script Lab, among others. An erstwhile Modern/Afro-Brazilian dancer/performer and holistic healer, Kathryn is a dual American-French citizen and a proud, enrolled citizen of the Cherokee Nation. She and her husband have two grown children and live on the western edge of the continent, in Yelamu, occupied Ohlone land, also known as San Francisco, CA.
