Screenwriter/Filmmaker

Hello, I've been a screenwriter/filmmaker based in Hollywood since 1979. I've written countless screenplays, novels and plays and have written and directed my own feature-length documentary films for known New York and LA companies. Currently revising a new screenplay with a known DGA director, prep...

Hello all, I'm presently doing a rewrite on our feature screenplay, a time travel thriller, 'Time Shifters'. Also, I'm looking for funding for our award winning short script 'The Tenth Door, to produce this provocative 15 minute film here in Pittsburgh.

Seeking additional screenwriters to help with developing properties

My writing partner and I are looking for a few screenwriters who would be interested in helping us turn some of our treatment properties into full-fledged screenplays . We have close to a dozen treatments registered with the L.O.C. One of them is being adapted by a script writing consultant right no...

Thank you for your input. Do you have more advice for a newbie screenwriter? Any advice is always welcome.

Dita-Marina Obert

To add to my above comment. You have assumed correctly. The assisting screenwriter would receive the first credit as writer on the finished script.

Alex Sarris

Hey Dita, I thought that may have been the case. Try Writer Arena to learn the art of screenwriting. Here is a link to the site http://forum.writerarena.com/ I am also a moderator on the site. You can...

How to do new time travel?

Howdy fellow sci-fi screenwriters, I recently read an article about the sort of scripts you should and shouldn't write. One of the shoulds was a time travel movie, and it got me thinking about the ways in which time travel has been done and how it can be done freshly (Looper) and whether other fresh...

I'm not so interested in time travel per se, but I am very interested in the perception of time. I've recently written a short story about how someone starts to experience their own clock slow down, i...

That's an interesting concept, Ben. It reminds me of something that we might have seen on the old "Twilight Zone" episodes. :)

Thank you Adam, for bringing up this interesting question! I'm not sure if physical time travel will be possible one day, but mental time travelin, even deep into ancient generations could be cause ev...

Investor Meeting - Now What?

Here's my conundrum... I have a meeting with two investors. Each have invested in different film projects in the past. Great right. I have my script, my business plan, but I am not familiar with contracts. What would be a reasonable offer to accept from the investors? ROI on their investment plus 10...

ROI yes obviously...but they need a reason to invest in the first place & if they are investing all of the money up front than 10-20% isn't going to cut it. What percentage of the project are they inv...

You say that you've done this, yet you are asking this 'impossible' question! OK, I have a question for you: How high is the sky, and deep is the ocean? Do you actually have a track record? If you've...

Have the 2 investors made money in films before. if they have then your are halfway home. Remember investors think as an investment. filmmakers think as an art. think first as a business otherwise investors won't take it seriously unless they are related to you and have lots of extra cash.

Brandon Keever

Thanks for the input Chris Johnson and Bob Willems. I have been offered an interesting deal here. The investors want FIFO, then 20% of revenue. I'm not taking on any debt for this project. They are lo...
