Cliff Yates's Lounge Discussions

I retired from the L.A Sheriff's as a Sergeant after 30 years of service. For 25 of those years I was a cop by day and a standup comedian by night. I produced my own comedy shows at the Roxy on Sunset and the Hollywood Palladium. In 2013 I produced my own comedy special at the El Portal Theatre in North Hollywood which is currently streaming for free on Amazon Prime. My wife and I both love Broadway, and each year we see at least five or six shows on our two yearly trips to Manhattan. I produced two shows on Amazon, Comedians Talking Comedy, and Alba's Cuban Kitchen. Lately for some reason I have been concentrating on writing. I have three books on Amazon and just finished a memoir of my 35 years in Law Enforcement. My heart is in acting and entertainment. Living 35 miles east of Los Angeles, and after 30 years of driving a police cruiser in L.A. I find it harder and harder to drive into Hollywood and L.A for auditions and acting jobs. I love this creative community. I'm trying hard to pick a lane and be more focused. My problem is i think I can do it all. Shooting at too many targets causes you to miss hitting any.

Hello all. I'm originally from L.A. I moved to Tokyo as a musician/songwriter 26 years ago, and discovered that I was actually a screenwriter, waiting to blossom. I now have 6 commissioned screenplays, 3 have been produced, 1 is about to go into production, 1 is on Netflix and one is on Amazon Prime. I write female-driven dramas about dysfunctional families. I have also written and produced four short films, one which has earned several top awards at international festivals.

Am actively seeking representation and eager to meet other writers who are serious about their craft. Am currently enjoying THE GOOD PLACE and polishing a sitcom based on my friend's book. Have never experienced writer's block, and have cleaned the entire kitchen in avoidance of sitting down to the blank page. But I get to it. Eventually :)
