I've been tasked with putting together a Gigabit Media Showcase late spring (2014), and I'm doing some of the groundwork before putting out specs for 3D HD content that will run in the format of a "mini film festival" over our gigabit wireless network at 60 fps. This network will run between two locations (current plan is between San Francisco and San Jose, CA) and we will select 15-20 films to showcase, along with 10-15 commercials. I have to admit I'm a marketing gal who focuses on high tech and launching new technologies. A friend of mine directed me to this site as a way to start a dialogue with the filmmaker community. If I am posting in the wrong place, kindly direct me to the correct place. Thank you!! I am trying to figure out our specs for filmmakers to create their content. We want to show case the highest quality possible... so I have been trying to understand what cameras are on the market now that can shoot film that supports what we are trying to showcase - which according to our founder/CTO is "Full 4K/UltraHD encoding/decoding support in all hardware, e.g. HEVC Level 5.1, 4096x2160 pixels @ 64.0 fps, High Tier or equivalent." It has come up several times in my exploration of cameras that there isn't a lot of equipment that will come near supporting this. In fact so far I've only come across two viable options: Red Epics and Sony F55. And these seem very high end, and not widely available. So we have decided to try and split the film festival into a couple of sections. One that is "4K" focused and one that is focused more on the cutting edge, but in current use 3D technology. I'm looking for information on more commonly available cameras and the specs I might put out for filmmakers to create their short films in. I also would love some insight on the camera or related equipment that filmmakers would like to receive as one of the winners of the festival? Or what a dream prize package would look like.
