Phil Moreton - Bio

A cinematographer originating from New Zealand, Phil grew up in Berkshire. His experience in the film industry started at a young age as runner on Oliver Stone’s “Alexander”. He then began work as a freelance assistant editor. Later he worked as a research cameraman for various Soho production companies. His passion led him to take a degree in the moving image, eventually specializing in Cinematography and graduating from the NFTS (National Film & Television School).

Credits as a cinematographer include shooting a documentary out in Malawi with Duncan Bannatyne of BBC’s Dragon’s Den and a commercial with director Oliver Stone for a leading video hosting company called Vzaar. The advert left the company’s website inundated with hits and within 24hrs the company had over 400 news agencies reporting the video.

Phil continues to work on commercials and promos. More recently he has done extensive work for the fashion industry, including promotional filming of the clothing and expressing the brands image with a short art film.

A driving passion throughout his career has been shooting fictional film. His interest for narrative has led to a series of awards and nominations for many of the films he has worked on.

Phil’s work has led him to film abroad frequently: the US, Turkey, Austria & Malawi to name a few. Working with foreign crews and organizing equipment in these countries has given Phil the experience to articulate what is needed and solve problems to get the right look and feeling for a scene.

Phil is committed to creating the right aesthetic quality for a film, dependent on the individual vision of a director.

Training: Reading College of Arts & Design (BA Hons), Cinematography at the NFTS (MA).
