Just got a tiny taste of fame, how to capitalize on it?

Hello fellow creative types. I just found myself on the receiving end of a tiny wisp of fame. It is in regards to what I do for a living (Director/VFX Supervisor.) In your opinion. should I jump on it shamelessly? Promote, put myself out there, run with every ounce of buzz I can find? Or, let it rid...

I hope you have and are capitalizing on it, opportunites can be rare, so as long as it something you feel good about, GO FOR IT... and if you need a press release, hit me up :)

I'm proud of every project I work on. Big & small. Even the silly ones, and this is a silly one. I don't know marketing at all, and I really don't know about press releases. What would justify a press release?

Stephanie DeGraw

hi, well if you could tell me what its about I can see if its worth it to promote. Its cool if its silly, sometimes that is what creates the most Buzz. You can have all the talent in the world but if...

I'll e-mail you the details, but the overview is this. I was on-set VFX Supervisor and 2nd Unit Director on "Sharknado." That wave of notoriety has somewhat passed me by and I'd like to grab it as best I can.

I need a great editor

The sci-fi comedy short has been shot, 5 pages, on a Nikon 600D, dual system, with a professional crew. Aspiring to paid Director... how tough a transition...

It's not easy getting into the industry, you have to work hard and network as much as possible. But how do you start getting paid? I've found that after having a reel to show created more opportunities. Maybe small, but the more you work, the better your chances. Any success stories out there?

Geoff Mark

Kinda scary that there aren't...

Anyone doing this for money better have bucket loads of overriding Passion for this craft. It Isn't easy to get paid work.

Options for sound recording when shooting on DSLR?

Wondering what people have found to be the best solution to creating the best location sound when shooting on DSLR. The usual micro-budget considerations, and we're going with DSLR to get the most 'bang for buck' ratio - but the project needs exceptional sound as well or we've failed before we start... please let me know about your experiences :-)

Francis Harriman

Great, thanks, guys, for the input. I've been looking at the Zoom h4n as it looks like a very nice piece of kit for the money - at the moment we are weighing the costs benefits of purchase/kit hire an...

I just finished directing a one-day short. We shot on a DSLR. Like you, I believe bad sound makes you dead in the water. In fact, I think it screams amateur. For all my department heads I had a 5-year...

You're right... it's really the only way to go. What's the point of starting out with the idea that you are just going to make a mediocre effort... the results will never shine! Just a case of juggling the resources to make everything work!
