Screenwriter Maddie Shin (Shannon Kang of CW’s “Kung Fu”) is an LA party girl who has burned every bridge. Now she’s lost her job, her apt., her money and her boyfriend. So when she lands on the couch of Hunter (a friend of a friend) Maddie’s desperate for a place to stay. Luckily, Hunter is off to Mexico for a two-week vacation, and needs someone to water the plants. But she warns Maddie - no parties! As soon as Hunter hands her the keys, Maddie is texting everyone that it’s time to party! But to her chagrin, no one shows up. Except for Estelle (Broadway star Ellen Green - “Little Shop of Horrors”), the resident ghost who doesn’t like Maddie’s vaping habits. 20-something Maddie and 70-something Estelle seem like polar opposites, until they start to get to know - and confide in - each other. And that’s when an unlikely friendship blooms.
Written by AMPAS Screenwriting Nicholl Fellow Cameron Young and directed by Academy Member Jeff White, “Estelle” is the inaugural short film production of the Academy Gold Rising Program.
