About Catherine

Catherine Argyrople is an independent film director, writer, and creative producer committed to empowering women through female-centered narratives and authentic storytelling. Her work primarily focuses on social-facing issues including mental health & disability, gender equity in sports, identity, and coming of age.

Catherine is passionate about representation in front and behind the camera, uplifting inclusive teams of diverse female filmmakers and talent. Catherine runs a full-service production company, CATALYZE HER, specializing in diverse narrative and commercial content.

Catherine’s debut feature film, Growing Pains, premiered at the Mastercard-sponsored Chelsea Film Festival in New York City and The Boston International Film Festival in 2024. Growing Pains was awarded the prestigious ReFrame Stamp by The Sundance Institute and Women in Film for gender-balanced hiring.

Growing Pains is a semi-autobiographical real and raw coming-of-age story about identity, sexuality, and the aftermath of surviving cancer with unflinching honesty– inspired by Catherine’s personal experience as a childhood cancer survivor. Growing Pains was honored on the Diversity Spotlight at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival by Nielsen, Studio System, and RespectAbility, alongside filmmakers like Ava Duvernay and Denis Villeneuve. Featuring talented breakout actors Deanna Tarraza (from Absolution with Liam Neeson and Hallmark’s Letters to Santa). Deb LeClair (from Action Juice by Jake Bongiovi, produced by Millie Bobbi Brown), and newcomer Molly Morneweck, Growing Pains highlights New England talent.

From character-driven dramas to surreal comedies, her passion for storytelling knows no bounds. Catherine is drawn to female-led stories with themes of mental health. Catherine is in pre-production on her surrealist comedy TV pilot, Getting Back Out There, and in development on her sophomore feature, a coming-of-age surfing drama. Catherine draws inspiration from her own experiences navigating life's unpredictable twists and turns, infusing the project with heart, authenticity, and humor.
