About Carol

I began as an actor in Miami, working at Studio M in Coral Gables, the theatre founded by Tennesee Williams. Later I performed with Susan Sarandon, Henry Winkler, and worked for William Friedkin (as a stand-in for Kitty Winn on the set of the Exorcist!). It was on the set of the Exorcist that I decided I didn't want to wake up every morning for the rest of my life wondering what I looked like.
I then met Nam June Paik, who sent me to the Experimental Television Center in Binghamton NY. I was hooked. It was molten stained glass. From then on I made experimental video art with the analog video synthesizers of the 1970s and 80s in collaboration with jazz musicians, often in live performance in NYC and San Francisco.
In 1974 jazz pianist, Paul Bley, and I founded Improvising Artists, IAI Records & Video, . In 1979 I made the first hologram to incorporate a raster-scanned video image. The video art work has been exhibited internationally. Also, my paintings and video graphics have been used on many record album covers.
In 1996 I started the Not Still Art Festival of abstract and non-narrative video art, with music and sound design, which continued until 2009. The festival was screened at the Micro Museum in Brooklyn NY, with artists attending from Brazil, Tokyo and everywhere in between.
Currently I am collaborating with Don Preston, keyboard player of Zappa's Mothers of Invention. My goal in connecting with you on Stage32 is to find new ways to exhibit work respectfully. Ways in which all those who participate in the creative process receive some compensation for their effort. Best of luck to all of us.
