We Don’t See Scenes Like This a Lot: "Marriage Story Fight Scene"

Noah Baumbach deserved every single award and nomination he got, in my opinion. Not only is his idea unique, but he turned a typical separation story into a deeply human journey of two people I genuinely wanted to follow.

From the heartfelt opening scene that made me love both characters, to the endi...

I have Netflix, Ashraf Nahlous. I'll check out Marriage Story.

This is one of the most powerful scenes on film, IMHO. A visceral gut punch. Well written, of course, and dynamically performed.

Michael Dzurak

This argument scene, 10 pages in the screenplay, inspired me to redo several of my "gut punch" sequences when tension is (meant to be) high. A great and well built up to scene.

CJ Walley

Sure, it's in part about craft, but experiences and awareness of how people behave is essential too. The more you write, and the more you live, the more you take in.

Audio Play Writer/Director/Producer

Hi, all:

Although I joined Stage 32 a while ago, I haven't been active before, and so I'm taking this opportunity to (re)introduce myself. Also, I'm working on a new project that I'd love some feedback on.

I really enjoy audio plays Arnold A Schmidt, always have. Theater of the mind!

Arnold A Schmidt

Yes, I love that notion of "theatre of the mind." Dramatizing resembles, but differs from reading a novel (though it feels a bit like listening to an audiobook). Of course, the audio episode makes cho...

although we add in visuals as well - we've been experimenting with AI to (re)create 19th century scenery and ambience for the Youtube/Tiktok versions, and of course for social media. I like to think that audio does create a whole world that you can 'see' in your head...

Here's an earlier favourite - it's done well in festivals, and picked up over 5,000 views on Youutbe (still trying to figure out the algorithms on that one! ) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Sq22b54a...

Can you name a few feature films produced for under 5 million?

I'm mainly curious to know what low-budget films (other than Rocky) are worth watching. And of course, "worth watching" and low budget are highly subjective. Do you think it's best for an unknown writer to keep budgeting in mind when writing screenplays, or to have a budget target?

"Milk & Serial" - 800 bucks, y'all know "Blair Witch Project" approx. 60K, my buddy director's "Te Dua, I swear" - done only on catering for the cast and the crew, It's now most watched theatrical rel...

Hey Chris Ross Leong - thanks for the list. I've always found it difficult to find accurate production budgets for recent films. And frankly I'm stunned that some of these movies can be made so cheapl...

Greg Cox yes, it's common for producers to take a script that ideally needs a certain amount spending and then cut it back. Action scenes are typically where this happens. They can have that intention...
