What are the chances?

Do you think it is possible for an unknown screenwriter to sell a big budget movie?

Six months ago I was given a 138-page memoire typed by a WW2 Danish resistance fighter that reads like a Hemingway novel. (I also spoke with his daughter (92) who added details to what it was like to live during the...

Great advice. Finding the right connection for this story is important. After having a personal look into how so many Danish people came together during WW2 to 'do the right thing' for their fellow ci...

Screenplay structure

I could write for days, even weeks. My question however is about the structure of a characters "lines" do they have to be very neat and tidy? Them always starting and ending at the same place.

CJ Walley

Any piece of screenwriting software will solve most of your formatting issues. You don't need something as expensive as Final Draft at all. You can use something free like WriterDuet or Trelby.

Craig D Griffiths

I DON’T GET ANY MONEY FROM THIS.

CRAIG20 gets you 20% of Writerduet.

I like to have things look good on the page. But I don’t worry about it. The context and the message is super important. I’ll perhaps play with a surrounding action line to pretty up a page.

Amanda Toney

Connor - I agree with CJ Walley. Final Draft is the industry standard and when you write professionally you will need to use it, but alternatives like Writer Duet are a good place to start....

Thanks, Jeanette!

Great webinar, Jeanette! Is there a resource or website where I can find sales agents? Cinando had very few. And most of the ones they listed were overseas.

Amanda Toney

Hi Alissa! I know your looking for a list, but I also want to recommend this sales agent webinar. It gives invaluable advice and templates about the process: https://www.stage32.com/education?p=894494...

Thank you! I'm thinking of changing it to be:

Which do you like better?

You've written a strong screenplay, now how the heck do you get your query email past the gatekeepers and get noticed?

There is an art and a skill to writing an email that makes it past the gatekeepers and connect with the decision makers who can actually get your script read. Talent manager Audrey Knox is giving us the insider info on the specific wording and information that gets your email opened and read.

Here are some tips that Audrey mentioned in the webinar (some of the tips are paraphrased):

Maybe just choose an "gate-keeper free" environment...European, Asian cinema is full of producers, directors scouting quality scripts...they're more friendly to eye-to-eye approach with the writers of course assuming you know what you're doing...

Pitch Deck

Hi Stage 32 Community - I just finished writing my first tv show pilot and I'm ready to start pitching it. I am in need of a graphic designer that can help me bring my pitch deck to life. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I love that you are taking the business of selling your script seriously! That's exactly what you need to do, ensure all your materials are polished and ready to be seen. In case you want to give it a...

I made my movie poster image on canva.com for free. And then I put the pitch deck together on powerpoint.

I would keep writing pilot scripts/feature scripts before you start pitching or putting in work to make to pitch deck (because those take a lot of time). Say whoever you’re pitching to says “I like th...
