I am very new to the community, eager to read and connect more about making films today. First of all cinephile, I am a French director making, after 4 short films who travelled to 50 film festivals, a documentary called CLOSE ENCOUNTERS WITH VILMOS ZSIGMOND (1978 OSCAR for Best Cinematography for "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" by Steven Spielberg), lucky to have interviewed so many interesting and generous persons like John Travolta, Vittorio Storaro, Darius Khondji, Haskell Wexler, Richard Donner, John Boorman among others (feel free to like the Facebook page of the film) - a film to be released in France at the end of this year... as well as preparing a feature film called A DREAM LAST NIGHT (feel free to visit the eponymous film site) from a script I co-wrote with KC and Budd Schulberg (1950 OSCAR for ON THE WATERFRONT by Elia Kazan) to be shot in Florida... as soon as possible ! Best to you all, Pierre Filmon

Expand commentHello everyone. I am a local independent filmmaker in Washington, DC looking to collaborate with talented people on projects. As a retired member of the Howard University film faculty, now looking to pursue my own film career, I taught cinematographer to some of the well known cinematographers in the industry today: such as, Ernest Dickerson (now a director), who shot most all of Spike Lee's movies and Bradford Young (Best Cinematographer at Sundance for "Restless City" and "Mother of George") and cinematographer on Selma.
Hey Pierre. Always great to see you, my friend, and I thank you for the post. Let me get this straight...You wrote a script with Budd Schulberg??? Care to possibly write a guest blog about that experience? Sound fascinating.
Alonzo, great to have you here. I might suggest starting your own Introduce Yourself thread and sharing who you are with the community!

As a former member of a university faculty, now looking after my own film career, I taught cinematography and directing to most of the well known black cinematographers/directors in the industry today (see Washington Post: http://www.washingtonpost.com/entertainment/movies/howard-university-has...). I have a two minute storyboard/concept/pitch on vimeo (link made available upon request). Any feedback (comments, suggestions on locations or financial referrals), would appreciated. Hope to hear from you, soon. Sincerely, Z0

Many local actors are participating and it is a good opportunity to network with local production and acting talent. Furthermore, this event strives to push the Black independent production film paradigm from after to before production, in audience approval. It is a story that addresses slavery and the Antebellum South of the 19th century in a unique and different approach. I would love to have your input on the story. Please invite your circle of friends to RSVP: acrawford@howard.edu. The event promises to be revolutionary in the annuals of Black Independent Filmmaking. Thanks again, Z0;) "The Matrix does exist if we fail to tell stories from our own perspective."
Hello Alonzo, Sorry I missed this message. I will pay more attention next time. Regards, Irina
