My name is Danny Lee and I am Korean American. I was born and raised in the United States
I am a recent graduate from SUNY Purchase College in New York with a B.A. in Film and Media Studies. As an aspiring filmmaker I aspire to tell stories related to the Asian American experience. Through these topics, my vision with film making is to educate audiences through entertaining stories while leaving an impression.
When I was younger, I have been influenced by many Asian American YouTubers and content creators, such as Ryan Higa, WongFu Productions, and Kev Jumba. All three of them came onto the scene when YouTube was on the rise, growing to become one of the major media platforms. Every week, they post videos of comedy sketches and scripted short films with Asian American leads. Most recently, I have been influenced by South Korean independent film director Bong Joon Ho with the success of his film, Parasite. The success of the film has taught me about the fact that art is universal, no matter what language it is in. Thus, my own work also includes Korean American leads and my own short student films and screenplays are also in the Korean language with universally understood themes such as the rise in hate crimes and racism against Asian Americans. I believe that everyone has a unique story to tell.
Through my passion, I would like to help other minority filmmakers tell their stories and get our voices heard.
