About Kayshawn

I am a writer/director originally from Boston, MA but have lived all over (NY, San Francisco, and now most recently LA). Since I’ve graduated undergrad with a Anthropology and History degree I’ve been trying to figure out where my passion truly lies. I like Anthropology because of its analysis of human beings and their values, rituals, and overall culture. We live in a large multicultural nation that is the United States. Not only that but western culture, values, and practices in America are constantly shifting/changing, making America a very suitable place for anthropological study. I like History because of how a series of past events made each and everyone of us who we are today. Nevertheless the main aspect of history I like the most is the storytelling. It was always the storytelling feature of it, even when I was 12 years old; the age that I decided I was going to pursue my interest in history and give up my dream of being a white coat scientist.
I once heard Quentin Tarantino state in an interview with Charlie Rose that “to me in a way, history was like watching a movie, to me that was stories, so I was interested in stories.” It was right there and then when I knew what I wanted to do for the rest of my life and I haven’t second guessed it since. I am commonly always interested in people’s stories and their upbringing. I’d say the best skill I have is the ability to listen. People often say that I think too much or that I analyze too deeply into things but often I think it’s people not thinking enough. I’ve never been the one to settle for “how things are” and “the norm.” It is this way of thinking that has led me to write all type of screenplays; mainly psychological thrillers, coming of age, crime noirs, and dark comedy. When I write, these are the topics that I end up writing about. They all connect to a particular point in my life but most importantly they connect to the other people's lives whom I’ve connected with. My goal is to make a multipule feature films as filmmaking is something that I want to do for the rest of my life.
