About Eljohn

Eljohn Macaranas is an award-winning queer Asian American screenwriter from sunny Miami, FL. Raised on VHS tapes and by two nurses who immigrated from the Philippines, Eljohn's writing focuses on "the other" and the oddities of American and Asian culture. At just 25, he's received notice from the likes of the Austin Film Festival, ScreenCraft, and Table Read My Screenplay. His debut screenplay "Charlie Goes to Peru" was named a finalist in the 2019's ScreenCraft Comedy writing competition as well as a second-rounder in 2018's Austin Film Festival. "How the Yellow Mellow", another project of his made the Next 100 in 2020's Academy Nicholl Fellowship. His passion for telling diverse, complex character-driven stories has made him one to watch.
