Hope Alexander

Award-winning actor/director Hope Alexander started her career at The San Francisco Actor's Workshop, where she was the youngest apprentice in that company's history. She has been a working member of the theatre community for over forty years. Her work as a director has taken her from Costa Mesa, California (South Coast Repertory Theatre: True West, Play Strindberg) to Paris, France (Le Petit Herbertot Theatre, Tennessee Williams's The Two Character Play with Robert Symonds and Priscilla Pointer). A multiple DramaLogue Award and Critic's Circle Award Winner, some of her other directing favorites include: Park Your Car in Harvard Yard and Fighting over Beverly, both at The Fountain Theatre, Last List of My Mad Mother, Hudson Theatre, The Art of Dining, The Marin Theatre Company, The Glencarin Cycle, a series of Eugene O'Neill's sea plays performed onboard a 19th Century sailing schooner docked off of Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco, Nunsense, Sleuth, Sylvia and Picasso at the Lapin Agile, SRT, Night Sky, Odyssey Theatre, The Taming of the Shrew, OmniArt Productions (where she was also the Producing Director), Shame on the Moon, L.A.T.C. ,Unexpected Tenderness at The Marilyn Monroe Theatre and Snow White, written by her son Thorin Alexander and produced by The Falcon Theatre. As the Producing Artistic Director of The Company Rep, Hope directed Picasso at the Lapin Agile, Criminal Minds, Camino Real , The Comedy of Errors, The Fantasticks, A Christmas Carol , Play Strindberg, The Nina Variations and the World Premiere Musical Rosenstrasse. As a designer, she designed the costumes for Criminal Minds, Season's Greetings, Camino Real, Split, The Comedy of Errors, The Fantasticks, A Christmas Carol, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, Play Strindberg, The Pension Grillparzer, Twelfth Night and Scapino!; as well as both the sets and costumes for The Nina Variations and Rosenstrasse. Hope's acting credits include a USA tour of SHAKESPEARE’S PEOPLE, starring opposite SIR MICHAEL REDGRAVE as well as being a company member of both William Ball's The American Conservatory Theatre (3 Seasons) and Michael Leibert's Berkeley Repertory Theatre (5 Seasons), where her many roles included: Medea in Kabuki Medea, Rosalind in As You Like It, Dorothy Moore in Jumpers, Lady Anne in Richard III, Hesione in Heartbreak House, Mme. Arkadena in The Seagull, Miss Alice in Tiny Alice and Lucy Brown in The Threepenny Opera, amongst many others. She has performed at numerous other theatres across the country, including South Coast Repertory Theatre, where her roles included Mrs. Cheverly in An Ideal Husband, Edna in A Delicate Balance and Mac in Three Viewings; The Pasadena Playhouse, where she was Hester in Equus; California Shakespeare Festival as Gertrude in Hamlet and Paulina in A Winter's Tale; Playmaker's Repertory, where she did Rosalind in As You Like It, and Josie in A Moon for the Misbegotten; and, at The Actor's Theatre of Louisville, Elmire in Tartuffe. Ms. Alexander was one of the series stars of both The New WKRP in Cincinnati and The Mystery of Black Rose Castle. She can also be seen in many late night reruns of both films and television programs.
