Rahul Aijaz

Rahul Aijaz is a writer, filmmaker, journalist, and former film critic and photographer, based in Karachi, Pakistan,

The short film ‘A Train Crosses the Desert’, written, directed and co-produced by Aijaz, is the first Sindhi-language short film from Pakistan to ever screen at international film festivals. It has been a part of 10 festivals in 7 countries, including the South Asian International Film Festival (NYC, USA), Jaipur International Film Festival (India), Kazan International Film Festival of Muslim Cinema (Tatarstan, Russia), Asian Film Festival, LA, Hollywood (USA) and MICMX (Mexico). The short film has further been screened around Pakistan across Karachi, Jamshoro and Lahore, and has been celebrated by local and international media.
His short film ‘The Imperfect Human’ played in the online ‘The Liftoff Sessions’ festival and BUEIFF Channel (Buenos Aires), whereas his mockumentary 'I, Prophet' screened at the Nihilist Film Festival (US) and was part of the Cannes Short Film Corner 2021.

In 2019, he was part of the screenwriting fellowship held by Locarno Open Doors and Vidhi Films. From 2019-2021, he was a fellow at 'Film Talents - Voices from Pakistan and Afghanistan' program by Geothe-Institute Pakistan.

He was the subject of 'My Story, My Language' short documentary.

As a culture and film journalist, he has extensively covered cinema, music, theater and pro-wrestling for major publications in Pakistan (The Express Tribune) and Korea (The AsiaN). He was also part of the jury at the first-ever Pakistani International Film Festival in 2018. He currently runs Film N' Chips Media Productions, works as a writer and director, and teaches film history and content distribution and promotion to undergraduate media students at Institute of Business Management.
