Vanessa is a writer and actor who survived living in a converted chicken coop with her alcoholic father, weekend visits to a Newark, NJ methadone clinic with her hippie-punk mother, and - most recently - working in the NYC tech and startup worlds. She is the creator of The Atlanta Writers Room - a diverse community of Atlanta-based screenwriters. While working with a young billionaire (not a brag), she co-created a short-form digital series exploring tech world egos. She has written a variety of shortform kids' content for an award-winning digital studio, including co-creating Mish & Mash - a weird and wild YouTube puppet series that allowed her to sneak in adult themes like perfectionism, anxiety, and climate change. Now she’s focused on writing and developing original pilots and shorts that explore the human condition through a female lens. Her first pilot PERSONAL WORTH is a metaphysical Silicon Valley meets The Devil Wears Prada, in the style of Atlanta, inspired by her time working in tech and startups. She's also developing HORN EYE - a semi-fictionalized series about Karen Horney, the greatly under-appreciated pioneer of Feminine Psychology and self-analysis - set against the backdrop of 1930’s and modern day Brooklyn.
She writes about what she knows - grief, addiction, the psyche, generational trauma, failed relationships, and the journey from isolation to connection - through the lens of messy, dysfunctional women who are doing their damn best.
Personal Worth a.k.a. The Untitled Female Founder Project Drama ⋄ Comedy A metaphysical dark comedy about female founders that follows Arlo – the polished-but-cracking, wine-soaked CEO of a buzzy dating app – as she attempts to rise the ranks of the tech bro-dominated startup world, assimilate with a cliquey group of female peers, and outrun the looming superstorm of grief and childhood chaos that threatens her sanity.
