We live and die by our choices in life and in business. Especially in THIS business. And when they are bad, we pay for them in some fashion or another. Josh is getting hammered (and has been for 4 years) over this. So he is dealing with it. How, who knows? But that is beside the point. I receive unsolicited scripts all the time. I have a stack of my own projects that I am trying to get funded, like Josh, so while I rarely read the unsolicited scripts, I always send a nice note THANKING the person for sending it.... and for thinking about my company. Because after all... the writer thinks they are doing you a favor. And as one who has come up the ranks (not as a writer) and knows the struggle, I couldn't be rude to anyone who is trying to get recognized. I have a passion for talented people. And I know I have most likely NOT read some real gems. But like I tell my students when I teach, "Never give anyone in this business a reason to dislike you." Why? It just does you no good at all in the long run. Personally, I think Josh was trying to mix humor with a real truth. Because what he says in so many places in this rather lengthy article (that was certainly longer than my treatments I have read) is true. But being from the south, I would recommend to Josh that he use a tact that southerners use... next time he goes off on someone like this... end it with... "...bless his/her heart!" Because it seems to lessens the blow. ;)
