About Kepa

I hope my music speaks for itself. . .

However, if you 're curious. . .

The Mission

What do you do when you've spent years fine tuning your craft, building connections, and you finally start to see things begin to take off. . . but God tells you you're going the wrong direction?

Songwriter, Producer, and Composer, Kepa Freeman's work is guided by the same mission as his company: Going the extra mile for purely positive art that brings people closer to God through Christ.

This is a mission, however, started with some personal sacriifice and a promise.

The Story

He'd been a film scoring intern with the Jimmy Neutron's music composer. His music degree had just been earned. His band and open-mic/jam session events were both gaining notoriety; taking the stage at Philly's World Cafe Live for their second time. His music school big brother was just invited to go on tour with Musiq Soul Child. He'd bumped into R. Kelly's producer at a restaurant in South Philly and was invited to hang out at his studio. He'd had the privilege of having his band's demo recorded in a friend's music class. . . taught by Grammy award winning producer, Phil Nicolo. If ever there was a time for Kepa Freeman's songwriting career to take flight, it was Spring of 2006.

Freeman, growing up believing that he loved His Creator and that he lived accordingly, realized that he'd been settling. He was active in community service, regular Bible study, and just being a generally nice guy, but there were areas of his life that he was holding back from the God that had given him so much.

When a heartbreak akin to Hosea showed him his own unfaithfulness, it became clear that it was time to let go. In one fell swoop, He said goodbye to the band, the successful events, the growing notoriety, and the connections. If Kepa was going to take the time it took to make music, it was going to served the one who gave him the gift of music in the first place.

The Sound

Unfortunately, Kepa's new resolution didn't initially seem to lead to any job openings. Gospel wasn't his sound, and Christian Contemporary didn't seem like it either. Then WGTS played those faithful words:

"Now I tried and tried to rectify, my hopeless situation, and bought the lie I still had work to do. So I worked a nine to five like I could earn my own salvation, but there is no condemnation in you. . . Child you're forgiven and loved. . ."

Two years after leaving behind a dream, praying for a change in the right direction, that prayer was answered in the key of Jimmy Needham.

Now, THIS, he could do!

Discovering Jimmy Needham led to discoveries of so many other Christian musicians that now influences Kepa's work: Tenth Avenu North, Matthew West, NEEDtoBREATHE, Lisa McClendon, and J.R. to name a few.

Inspired by these like minded artists, Freeman was ready to let the world hear what his Father had for him to say. Bringing akin to a mesh of John Mayer, Lauryn Hill, Corrine Bailey Rae, Norah Jones, and Ray Lamontagne, Kepa is packed and ready to go the extra mile to bring people closer to Christ.
