About MoMo

Kgomotso “MoMo” Matsunyane (b. 1988) has been a professional actor in South Africa since 2004. She obtained an Honours Degree in Dramatic Arts from Wits University in 2012, majoring in Performance as well as Film and Television. MoMo has performed in numerous plays, films and television shows and has subsequently been nominated for and won several awards including: Best Actress in A Leading Role (Have You Seen Zandile? ;Naledi Theatre Awards), Best Supporting Actress (Ankobia ;SA Theatre Magazine Awards), Best Ensemble (Animal Farm; Naledi Theatre Awards), Best Supporting Role (Tsotsi The Musical; Fleur Du Cap Awards) amongst many others. She has recently been nominated for two Naledi Theatre Awards for Best Production: Independent Fringe for Unlearn and Dick Or Date? produced under company MoMo Matsunyane Productions in 2019 which she also wrote and starred in. Matsunyane has also worked on television shows like Thetha Msawawa 2, Dreamworld S1 and 2, MamelloS2, numerous Mzansi Magic films and most recently as a resident sketcher on #KarektasS2. Her film work includes a cameo role in Ayanda directed by acclaimed director Sara Blecher and a supporting lead role in The Call, directed by award winning director, Zamo Mkhwanazi. It went on to win the Best International Film at the Rapid Lion International Film Festival in 2018. In 2020, upon returning from performing in Switzerland in a show called “Converting Eviction” the country was thrust into a Lockdown. As a result, Matsunyane began experimenting with a hair product creation leading to what is now known as MoMo Juice. The range includes a Hair Moisturizer, a Hair Growth Oil as well as a Ntjebe Quencher. To her own surprise the product has grown so much and more and more people express their love of the products. In 2021, MoMo was cast in Standard Bank Young Artist Award Winner for Dance, Lulu Mlangeni’s NAF production “Kganya”. Matsunyane is deeply passionate about acting and she still hopes to tackle even more roles with the professionalism and work ethic she is known for and equally prides herself in. She is currently teaching acting at The Market Theatre Laboratory.
