About Liban

My name is Liban Hassan.

I am a writer of the first order!

Most recently, I was the Senior Editor for Big Kitty Magazine in Calgary, AB - where I directly helped grow their readership and web presence for over a year.

I have written a book titled Boy About Town which is ready for editing and hopefully released this summer.

Also, I am in the latter portion of attaining my degree in Communications - minoring in creative writing.

I have been published in various online publications throughout Canada. My professional goals are to get this book out, more books after that, and finally, shoot films, shorts, and documentaries - all of which I have already begun writing and planning.

Unique traits: Writing is my superpower and my life is the framework from which I fight criminally sh*tty projects. From what I understand, visionaries travel to and from the future and make plans for it accordingly. I am just grateful to be alive and able to type my observations and experiences on blank documents - so you can find me here, in the present, working.

Spent the weekend in Edmonton with my family. Ended up turning in two papers, wrapping up 2 presentations, acquiring a few new clients, and coming to some of the biggest realizations of my life! As a teenager - when I told people (Somali people) who my mother was, they’d always say “DO YOU KNOW WHO YOUR MOM IS?!” That shit always threw me off As if I didn’t know my mom was a boss But as I got older I realized just how deeply she’d affected people’s lives A lot of my family members had this sort of reputation of impacting lives in a real way A lot didn’t Lol - but after running into a few old friends and speaking to some new ones (who’d heard of me long before we met) ... I realized how far along on their path I’ve come It’s dope I’m grateful to finally be having positive impacts on people. Also, I figured logically there are those who I’ve impacted that aren’t yet far enough on their journey to let me smell my flowers as well No biggie What matters are those that do! Thank you for helping me see myself a little better I’ve heard the things people have said about a version of myself which no longer exists but to hear about the version of myself I’m still getting to know - that shit hit different Merci beaucoup
There are days - days like today, where I barely remember the past. Days where almost 24 hrs goes by n I barely remember the pain But then I’m jolted back to reality by remembering the dead. The brothers and sisters who didn’t get the opportunity to see their 30s, didn’t get to play with their offspring, and who were robbed of the chance to watch their goals & dreams begin to materialize I went to my 32nd funeral the day before I turned 33. This shit ain’t a game, it’s not something I gloss over, nor is it something I’m able to express clearly - even with my spectacular vernacular So, every milestone of my life is and will always be tainted with loss and coloured with blessings I WILL tell our stories - @50cent ain’t the only genius out this bitch lol In the words of @kingjames .. LET’S GOOOOO!!
