About Logan

Logan Tyler Smith is an American film director and screenwriter. Born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska, he grew up on the autistic spectrum with a loving family who always helped and supported him. He first became enamored with movies when he was 2 years old, watching a VHS copy of Toy Story (1995) and later seeing Toy Story 2 (1999) in theaters.

This began a lifelong obsession with animation and eventually comic books/superheroes. His love of film was cemented upon seeing the Star Wars and Indiana Jones trilogies around age twelve, where his mother as result of that obsession bought him a Star Wars 'bonus material' DVD from a thrift store. Watching the behind-the-scenes documentaries from the DVD made him first consider the idea of being a feature film director, and later watching Clerks and Pulp Fiction (both 1994) it began an obsession with director filmographies and cinematic franchises (something the Marvel Cinematic Universe's rise also cemented in his head).

Logan had a lifelong love of writing, and before seeing several cinematic masterpieces he considered being an author. In high school, he wrote most of a fantasy novel before his love of movies solidified in his head.

Logan's writing style coupled with a straightforward directing approach (self-described as 'silliness delivered with sincerity') started at first as a wholly self-taught effort, making short videos and skits on YouTube. Some of these skits went to his local film competitions (specifically the '5-Day Film Challenge', the '24-Hour Film Challenge', and 'Home Made Film Nite'). The skits taught him a lot about working with actors and how to juggle multiple things at once.

Logan is has recently finished his latest short film, 'Alex the Great' about a fictitious, farcical interview with historical legend Alexander the Great (his friends call him Alex). He is also working on multiple feature-length screenplays (and two more short screenplays, plus a feature film currently in production) to solidify his filmmaking ambitions.

Credits

  • Alex the Great

    Alex the Great (2022)
Film (short) Director/Writer A bored historian finds a way to resurrect Alexander the Great and asks him various questions. However, Alex develops a mind of his own in the twenty-first century...

  • The Mob God

    The Mob God (2020)
Film (short) Director/Writer Me getting experimental with editing techniques that created more than a few technical problems. Filmed at the beginning of the pandemic but still pretty fun to make.

  • Axed

    Axed (2019)
Film (short) Director/Writer One of my earliest films that I considered "counted", where I used theater actor friends in the main roles. It follows a love triangle that is slowly revealed to the audience. It also made it into Anchorage's 'Home Made Film Nite' at the Alaska Experience Theater in 2019.

  • The Flamingo Connection

    The Flamingo Connection (2019)
Film (short) Director/Writer A gag title for the 5-Day Film Challenge in 2019. This one was one of my favorite shorts at the time that I made, using a friend's rap music and eccentric performers with additional help. It was fun and played well on the big screen at Bear Tooth.

  • Alaska Noir

    Alaska Noir (2018)
Film (short) (Comedy and Crime) Director/Writer One of my beginning, more student film-type projects.

  • The Man with the Devil Mask

The Man with the Devil Mask (2018)
Film (short) Director/Writer One of my greatest regrets in filmmaking is making a movie entirely by myself with this awful sound design. It still made it into Anchorage's '5-Day Film Challenge' in 2018 at the Bear Tooth Theater, but when the audio could barely be heard by the audience I practically cried. It's a movie about a home invasion.
