Happy International Women's Day Creative Army!

Is your coffee ready? I'm about to bring you some white-hot content featuring some powerhouse female filmmakers on this very special International Women's Day edition of Coffee & Content.

We have had some amazing films led by female filmmakers in the last year. Little Women (Greta Gerwig), The Farewell (Lulu Wang), Booksmart (Olivia Wilde), A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood (Marielle Heller), and Hustlers (Lorene Scafaria) to name a few. However, with the recent industry upset by the lack of female directors nominated during awards season, there is still clearly a disconnect in the entertainment industry.

Our first piece of content today comes from Variety. In this particular Variety Roundtable discussion, seven female directors sit down to talk about directing television in today's Hollywood landscape. In this video, you will hear from Jodie Foster (Black Mirror), Helen Hunt (Fued, Splitting Up Together), Linka Glatter (Homeland), Mary Harron (Alias Grace), Pamela Adlon (Better Things), Tracee Ellis Ross (Black-ish), and Melina Matsoukas (Insecure). You will learn the importance of creating opportunities for women in every position in front of, and behind the camera and how to overcome many of the hurdles female filmmakers encounter on a daily basis.

Next up, actress and writer Naomi McDougall-Jones owns the TEDx stage with some staggering facts and figures about the gender unbalance in Hollywood. What makes matters more interesting is that research shows that movies featuring female filmmakers and stories actually make more money than the alternative.

Here at Stage 32, we love to share stories and knowledge with our fellow film fans. Know someone who would love this content? Share it with them! Tag them below! You can keep up with all of our content by subscribing to the Stage 32 YouTube.

Wishing you a very happy Sunday and a happy International Women's Day!

Cheers,

RB
